This notice describes what information the Civic Source Lab website collects, how that information is used, and how long it is retained. It applies to the website at civicsourcelab.org only.
Information Collected by the Website
The website operates without user accounts, advertising, analytics services, or tracking of any kind. It sets a single session cookie, used solely to protect the contact form against forged submissions; the cookie contains no personal information and is not used to identify visitors. As with most servers, technical logs are kept recording the address from which a request was made, the page requested, and the time of the request. These logs are used for the operation and security of the service and for no other purpose.
Correspondence Submitted Through the Contact Form
A visitor who submits the contact form provides a name, an email address, optionally an organisation, and a message, together with any data set selected as the subject of the enquiry. This information is transmitted by email to the office and is used solely to respond to the correspondence and to conduct any arrangement that follows from it. It is not sold, shared, or disclosed to any other party, except where disclosure is required by law.
The verification step on the contact form is a computational check performed by the visitor's browser. It collects no personal information and requires no interaction.
The Archive
The records maintained by the office concern the conduct of government agencies in responding to public records requests. They are records about institutions, not about private individuals, and they are not gathered through this website.
Retention
Consistent with the office's practice, correspondence is retained as part of its records for historical reference and accuracy. Server logs are retained only as long as operational and security purposes require, after which they are discarded.
